Craig McLachlan: Australia's answer to David Hasselhoff
October 22nd 2008 04:58
Craig McLachlan is cashing in on his own bad reputation. Long mocked for his vanity, Craig is now turning the tables and having the last laugh with an advertising campaign for Blu Ray.
Crig seems to be following in the footsteps of fellow gigantic joke David Hasselhoff who some years ago threw his hands up and surrendered in a moment of "if you cant beat 'em. join 'em". He is not the first to laugh at himself (think William Shatner, Kamal, Barry Crocker) ans considering how successful the gimmick is, im sure he wont be the last!
You probably remember Craig best for his role in TV soap Neighbours, or perhaps that terrible pop/rock single "Mona". He has been floating around the edges of the Australian entertainment scene for decades. Craig recently appeared as a guest star in the current TV drama Packed To The Rafters as an aged rock-star who played the pub rock live music circuit.
There is an workable element of humour in Craig appearing as a parody of himself. The Blu Ray commercial that is currently airing actually shows clips from "Mona" on the TV hes watching while advertising the product. He is using the public perception of his over-inflated ego and general dagginess to successful pull off a self impersonation.
Brilliant, I say!

Yeah ok so Craig McLachlan is a bit of a tool but check out this video clip... it's Jason Donovan's 'Too many broken hearts'.. Pay attention to when he starts playing the guitar in the clip (and see if you can hear a fucking guitar on the track) BAHAHA!

Did you catch the commercial in Oz that featured Kevin Federline working as a fry cook and fantasizing about his glory days?
First reason I ever had to notice him.

Pity it took this long for him to take a good hard look at himself in a different light.
At least he's Aussie enough to be able to take the p*ss out of himself now . . .
Look out Hoff - perhaps we should start to "Back the Mac".

You're probably right about the mirrors and framed pics though. How he didn't follow in Kylie's footsteps I'll never know

That photo of him and guy is scary! And thanks for the Jason filmclip Alt_ed, you know I can't unsee that (curled into a ball sucking my thumb now).
Craig also played in Grease on the West End I think and the Grease Arena show in Australia, plus he played Frank'N'Furter in Rocky Horror in Melbourne.
Go the Craig!

I caught this adv. the other day and I have to say that i like Craig, and where he is taking this BluRay business with his vanity, at least he is honest about selling himself out, I agree.

look i had to consult the Wiki:
three surprises there
1) Mona was a Bo Diddley remake
2) Craig had two other "hits" ive never heard of
3) Mona was technically released in the 90s
thanks you for your enquiry
