Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

Cruelty to Vegetables!

March 17th 2009 07:53
Chris Crocker is at it again with another irreverent video . . .

It is a playful jab at vegetarians, I hope the vegos out there dont send him too much hate mail.

I remember a video where he said his life was so much harder than a womans because he had to take his hair extensions out every day . . . all these outraged women went completely berserk at him!

Pinch of salt people, a big pinch of celery salt!

However Chris Crocker is not alone in his jest. I found this website Vegetable Cruelty.com entirely dedicated to the concept.

vegetable cruelty - stop the genocide

Just as a side issue for discussion, what do you think of pet owners that feed naturally carnivorous animals (like dogs and cats) vegetarian diets to comply with their own beliefs/lifestyles?

Ive seen it in quite a few movies but Im not sure if people really go that far in real life?

Animal cruelty or no? To which animal, I guess . . .

Chris Crocker with a bit of stubble reminds me so much of Kurt Cobain.

Kurt Cobain once tried a vegetarian diet in an attempt to ease the chronic stomach pain which plagued him most of his life. It didnt work. Heroin was his way of self-medicating.

My dogs like to eat some vegetables, but I would never feed them a vegetable only diet - they like meat. They are carnivores who just happen to enjoy mushrooms, that's all.

Cats on a vegetable diet has many implications - all bad.

hi Carolyn,
thanks for the info on cats
i gave one of my parents cats a few peas once that had been on the same plate as meat and gravy - i think she ate them because she thought they were meat
i was watching Shirley Valentine the other week and her rich toffy neighbour puts her dog on a vego diet so Shirley goes around and feeds him steak

You're right. He does look like Kurt Cobain. It's a good find. The trouble is I have to always find somewhere else to look at these thngs because my sound is playing up.

He's such a dag! Love it. Yes I have known people that feed their animals vegetarian protein mix instead of meat and I think they should be hit over the head by the RSPCA. Cats and dogs are carnivores and should be eating meat, it's plain cruelty otherwise. Didn't Paul and Linda McCartney start a vegetarian pet food line?

That said, my brother's cat has a good (meaty diet) but also LOVES yoghurt, mangoes, grapes and many other very strange foods. My friend's cat likes ice cream as long as it's not chocolate and goes mental for Promite.

I used to have a dog who would dig all of the radishes out of our vege garden and eat them. We would come out in the morning and find the tops all over the lawn. If you had a radish, she would claw your leg off to get at it. But this was also a dog that got into my handbag and ate all of my blusher and lipstick...

if the animals are still getting all their dietary requirements then i really don't see the problem in them being vegetarians. at the end of the day, if people really wanted their pets to live the way they are supposed to then they wouldn't be keeping them as pets. humans have gone to all the trouble of domesticating animals and controlling every other aspect of their lives. why draw the line at their diet?

can't watch the video.

hi Janet,
oh you see the resemblance too!
i hope your sound gets fixed!

hi Cheryl,
a lipstick eating dog!
better than vegetarian!
ive known cats to eat a variety of non-meat foods, like carrots and potatoes and rice etc. but i think they like them because they are flavoured with meat
i wonder what a vet would recommend with regards to a totally vegetarian diet?

hi Ruby,
i knew you would be my token vegetarian reader
i think you have a good point about domesticised pets living lifestyles outside their wide "natural" nature
perhaps if they get all the nutrients they need from non-meat products it isnt unhealthy for them?
dont worry about the video, its just the old joke that vegies deserve the same ethical treatment as animals . . . im sure you would just yawn

hi Carolyn,
yeah my cat doesnt hunt other animals either
actually i was thinking about it and she doesnt actually eat any raw unprocessed meat, she just eats dried food which im told has meat or fish in it . . . thats the only thing she likes, give her a cube of steak or mince and she walks away from it

Cats are like that. My dogs would wolf down steak if I gave it to them. They actually eat a very good dry food, and whatever they find in the garden to eat, some of which I don't like to think about.

The pharaoh hounds like to catch a bird every now and then, and they race around with it playing tag until one of them grabs it and eats it.

The schnauzers don't have the prey instinct of the pharaohs, they just bark at strangers for amusement.

you have alot of specialised knowledge with the doggies, i bet they love you to bits . . . pets are great companions

hi Wilson,
a tortoise? haha
thats cool!
i dont think i know anyone else who owns a tortoise
and i didnt realise they were meat-eaters
very interesting comment

hi David,
better than being an a-hole
whats with all the cunty comments?
has your readership died off ever since you started talking about your sexual fantasies and posting pics of yourself?
probably not a good combination . . .

hi PoMo,
i think Chris has a great talent for being deadpan . . . i think it gets him in trouble fairly often!
i remember in the film Notting Hill, Hugh Grant goes on a date with a "fruitarian" haha

hi Cheryl,
i have eaten some beautiful vego food too, ive known quite a few long-term vegetarians who could cook meat-free food that was bursting with flavour . . . or if they didnt cook they knew all the good restaurants . . . vegetarian lasagne can be so good
i dont think i could give up the meat though . . .

hi alt_ed,

Morgan, sometimes I think I should get rid of the dogs and actually talk to real people. Then I talk to a person and they say the most f....d things, and my dogs sound more and more intelligent.

That's not actually true. I know people who seem OK. You never can tell though. They're fun to write about - people stories have more interesting subplots than dog stories. I bet cats get some good subplots going.

I wrote a short story about cats trying to take over the world. I won first prize with it - it was pretty exciting! I love winning first prize, especially for my writing and especially if there's money involved!

At the moment one of my dogs is barking her head off at birdies in a tree and the rest are sleeping in various places in and around the house. Boring.

I was a vego for a few years in my teens. We went to live on a farm and had a piggery, some cows, chooks, a horse and sundry farm like stuff. I even had a pet pig who was a runt and rejected by her mother. I had to bottle feed her, she was SO cute. One day I came home from school and there was a pigs head sitting on top of the box freezer we had in the shed. It completely turned me off meat and as soon as I was old enough that I could choose my own food I stopped eating meat. Believe it or not I was done in by a Big Mac on a road trip. now I see cow and think steak, yummy yummy steak.

Now excuse me I'm off to slaughter a carrot.

hi Cheryl,
ive lived with a few different vegetarians or people who dated vegetarians and kind of adapted to allowing for vegos if i prepare food
i also love sampling their creations
i cant believe it was a big mac that sucked you in! haha
i knew a "vegetarian" who would eat maccas and kebabs when they were drunk . . . needless to say he gave up the idea after a couple of years, the lure of takeaway food was too great

hi Ruby,
i gave up reading your posts long ago, your headlines are enough to put you on my "do not bother reading" list
i wish you would do the same for me but alas I am irresistable . . . i know this because ive been reading your posts
now i think its time for an ironic sermon on the evils of blogging, ranting, humanitarian causes, and bad grammar . . . all things you would never ever see me dabbling in
you would never see me because i dont see you
thats logic

hi Dove Chocolatier,
i guess it depends how you define "healthy"
im sure theres plenty of sugar, and maybe some fat, and some general carbs in any chocolate
no doubt some are less unhealthy than others
i think chocolate makes you feel good, sets off those feel good chemicals in your brain
thanks for the comment

No Morgan, that was one country lady trying to pretend she knows what the heck is happening in this blog.

I'm a poet, it's OK you can ignore me if you want. I'm used to it.

Better still, check out these websites and buy lots and lots of things. Ha Ha.

Chocolate is made out of a vegetable type thingy, and dark chocolate has alpha betabines in it, and if you get enough of those your unwanted knobbly bits will disperse.

Later this week I'm going to learn hoe to be a Community Foodie, and I'll be able to correct all the rubbish I wrote just there. It's going to be great.

My food blogs will actually have a stamp of authority to them, instead of me spouting things I read and.or make up. I'm a mother, I know what's good for you!
