driving in the rain . . . the soundtrack
September 16th 2008 03:34
i went out in my car thisarvo to take some photos for ArtCombat . . . as soon as i pulled out of the driveway it started raining cats and dogs . . . but i persevered (CLICKHERE to see the soggy results)
at one point i was driving around listening to the Talking Heads song "Road To Nowhere" while i was literally looking for the road to nowhere as the prescribed subject of my photography challenge . . . then "Once In A Lifetime" came on:
some of my favourite lyrics of all time . . . sometimes when what you are doing matches the song you are listening to you get this trippy feeling that your life is choreographed and you are just going through the motions . . . as the water pelted down harder and harder and streaming down the sides of the roads and out the the nearby ocean i wondered for a second if my car might be submerged and swept away just to match the flow of the song . . .
a tribute to the rain in songs:
NO RAIN - Blind Melon
NOVEMBER RAIN - Guns & Roses
WHY DOES IT ALWAYS RAIN ON ME - Travis
HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN - The Eurythmics
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN - Creedence Clearwater
RAIN - Madonna
I CANT STAND THE RAIN - Tina Turner
ITS RAINING MEN - The Weather Girls
SUMMER RAIN - Belinda Carlisle
and possibly the most embarrassing RAIN song (and music clip) of all time . . .

You may ask yourself
What is that beautiful house?
You may ask yourself
Where does that highway GO to?
You may ask yourself
Am I right?...Am I wrong?
You may say to yourself
MY GOD!...WHAT HAVE I DONE?
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/INTO THE SILENT WATER
UNDER THE ROCKS AND STONES/THERE IS WATER UNDERGROUND
What is that beautiful house?
You may ask yourself
Where does that highway GO to?
You may ask yourself
Am I right?...Am I wrong?
You may say to yourself
MY GOD!...WHAT HAVE I DONE?
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down

Well, you gotta blame it on something.
Some of my fav rain songs -
Fire & Rain - James Taylor
Crying in the Rain - Whitesnake
I Wish it Would Rain Down - Phil Collins
Who'll Stop the Rain - CCR
and perhaps my overall favorite - Purple Rain by Prince
Although the situation was ridiculous with Milli Vanilli you have to give the guy actually singing credit. The music itself was pretty good. Although no one else was willing to give him credit lol

oh and the Phil Collins song was a good one - so melancholy!
trust Creedance to have TWO great rain songs!
hmmm im not sure if Milli Vanilli really deserve any credit for anything, but i like your generous spirit!

Remember picking up an album called Driving Rain by Paul McCartney a few years back - and having spied your post it immediately came to mind.
How about
"A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" by Bob Dylan and "After The Rain" by the Angels I think it was.
Cheers and stay dry

Paul McCartney is often inspired by my posts! haha
The Angels and Bobby Dylan, that could make an interesting road trip soundtrack!

One of my favourite relatively recent memories was standing in a doorway near the Tom Mann (toblerone) Theatre after the pub, after Hedwig, watching the most spectacular lightning storm drunkenly singing songs about the rain with the cast of Hedwig.
We even did ACDC Thunderstruck hahaha.
