Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

hi Ruby,
yeah i know, shocking hey!
yet people keep voting for the system for the one in a million chance that they might be able to peel themselves off the bottom of the barrel?

Yeah, it's one of the things about America that makes me crazy. They have so been conditioned to believe that if they are not one of the lucky ones it's their own fault. they were too lazy or too stupid or they didn't want it enough.

hi Ruby,
when the playing field is so uneven hard work pretty much gets you nowhere - only friends in high places, favours, and corruption will!

Wonderful film! I love it.

Great observation by Ruby as well. We Americans are taught from a young age that if you don't get what you want, you didn't work hard enough for it. Even though statistics show that Countries that give more benefits to workers actually have HIGHER productivity than we do in the U.S. Not to mention lower suicide rates.

Hi Morgan,

I like Van Sant as a director even though there are a couple of his films that I can't stand, like Good Will Hunting and, in particular, Elephant which absolutely bored me to tears with its pointless tedium.

I think his early work was fantastic, especially Drugstore Cowboy and My Own Private Idaho. Against all expectations I actually didn't mind his shot-for-shot remake of Psycho either even if it was ultimately superflous in a way. I like Gerry too, though I'm sure most people fall asleep during that one!

hi Natalie,
all you little people really need to take back your rights and stop listening to the big bullies who are trying to control you!

hi David,
my favourites are Last Days, Psycho, and To Die For

I absolutely hated To Die For - it is how I picture Nicole Kidman in real life. Idaho, Paranoid Park and Elephant RULE!!!!

hi Jason,
i think Nicole Kidman in real life would be exactly like her character in The Others, cold and neurotic
