Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

About Me
i am a scaredy-cat.
i come from an abusive home where i had my own litters of kittens with my father and brothers when i was just a kitten myself (hence i am under-sized) and a complaint to the rspca prompted me being taken to The Cat Society in Newtown . . . i was then adopted by Morgan when i was 18 months old and we lived in a sharehouse and then a studio apartment in Redfern and Darlinghurst (inner-city Sydney) . . . we have recently moved to Tazzy where we live on an acre in a large family home with many bedrooms and hallways for running around . . . we now live with 3 other cats Rosie and Micky (long-haired sister and brother 12 months old) and ziggy (geriatric 18 years old) . . . so i am adjusting from being an indoor cat to an outdoor cat, i still insist that a kitty litter tray is the only proper place to go to the toilet . . .
i am very afraid of the noise of the lawnmower, the vacuum cleaner, and the hiss of the iron . . .
i purr alot but rarely meow . . .
i have extremely large eyes and my pupils are often completely dialated . . .
i am a very compact cat and have been mistaken for a rat . . .

iota deville - sitting on the wifi modem
computer cat

DEEP PENCIL POSTS FEATURING iota deville
"the blackout" . . . iota in high winds
"putting my cat in a sleeper cell" . . . iota can solve the world energy crisis

Hahahahahaha
Very cool.
I will show to my cat "Dark" if he can drag his sorry ass from in front of the heater.
He might be impressed if he cared to show it.

oooo Dark . . . thats a cool name!
cats love heaters hey . . . they like to sit so close they frizzle their whiskers and when you try to pat them you burn your hand! haha

tell me the 4th pic doent look a little like someone has a problem with crystel meth? lol

And the first pic - scared me.
Yeah - we named Dark when we were smoking pot one night. My flatmate said "let's name him Dark as in the absence of light". After laughing uncontrollably for about 10min's we thought it was cool, besides he is jet black. I actually bought Dark for that flatmate but then 6 month after I bought him, Garth (the flatmate), decided to do the UK holiday thing. This was 6yrs ago and he now lives in Argentina and is married. And I have been applying for jobs recently and am threw a couple of rounds of interviews to manage a cinema in New Zealand and have been making enquiries about the costs to get him to NZ. It is SO expense but we will get him there.

haha awww shes got the scary eyes going on!
hey thats a great story for naming the cat . . . mine was named after the singer iOTA around the time i saw Hedwig the Musical
it cost me $180 to fly iota from the mainland to Tazzy, i guess NZ would be more expensive than that?

Comment by Jason King

April 30th 2008 23:23
Yeah - it adds up to about $600 to $700-.
At least he doesn't have to end up in quarantine. It costs about 1500 pound from the UK for an animal.
An inspection for fleas and ticks at the airport is all.
But if I get the job it's 2 weeks training in Christchurch then move to Queenstown. Still trying to sort that nightmare out. Maybe a boarding house for Dark for 2 weeks which will totally suck.
And never saw Hedwig The Musical but a friend lent me Hedwig and the Angry Inch to watch while sick. So might suss it out today!

I was just heading out the door to go to work and saw that you were posting Mizz Deville's pictures and couldn't resist a peek. She is such a little cutie pie!

I wish I had my own pussa. As you know, my family cat died recently and I'm not allowed to keep a cat where I live. I have to go to a friend's place just to get some of those face rub cuddles from his cat Lily.

Give Mizz iota a big snuggle from me.

Jason, Dark is a very cool name for a cat

hey jason,
good luck with the big move, so many little details to consider and worry about, moving can be so stressful!
Hedwig is probably my favourite movie, its one of those movies that gets better with every watch and has some really great messages about the journey of discovering ones true self . . . i hope you enjoy it too!

hidy ho cheryl,
i hope i didnt make you late for work! haha
the oatster is a little cutie, very stubborn and determined though (like most cats)
you should sneak a cat in where you live, they are the best company, they have a calming quality i think . . . and they do so many funny eccentric things to make you laugh!

hi Louie,
yes im thinking of getting Dannii Minogues publicity crew to manage her! haha

thanks for the comments everyone, iota is chuffed that you all care!

Made it to work with enough time to grab my coffee!

Great idea about the choice of PR, your cat would have more facial expressions than either Minogue!

oh shes expressive alright!

in the comments for my review of "Last Days" Jason informed me that the beautiful Michael Pitt (of Hedwig and Murder By Numbers fame) used to be a member of the Dawsons Creek cast . . . that was a surprise . . . i thought perhaps that might interest you with your "where are they now" theme

Oh wow, I never watched that show. But...in a coincidence, he also starred in the movie Bully with Brad Renfro who was one of the child actors that I wrote about who ran off the rails and died. John Doe and one of my myspace friends Wayne have both said it is a phenomenal piece of work. Looks like that one is a must see for both of us.

Hey sorry to be a troll and stalk you but yeah, you need to find some hobbies.

Hey, why am I apologising? I love being a troll. I bask in my trollness.

BAHAHAhahaha was the troll thing YOU???
haha
and there i was thinking it was a reference to my friend with multiple personalities!
youre not a troll!

Comment by RubySoho

May 2nd 2008 05:27
Yeah, if you look at her post the "short title" that comes up at the top of the page by the URL reads simply "ruby".

She's actually jumping on someone else's bandwagon. Someone else called me a troll on his blog and she couldn't wait to jump all over it. I thought you knew it was me because you brought my name up. Too funny.

But I love how she accuses me of stalking, but without any sense of irony writes "i have watched her go from blog to blog". Hmm. who is stalking who? I bet she thought her post was going to get flooded with comments by people who hate me. How disappointing it must be for her.

i liked the time you were accused of stalking abortion blogs when your accuser had actually arrived at all the same blogs before you:

Do you ever allow a post about abortion to slip past you, Ruby? Is it your lifes mission to follow the abortion argument and support it? Don't you have anything better to do? Maybe you should get a nice job someplace... an abortion clinic perhaps? Maybe they'd let you haul the dead babies to the garbage so you an admire what you're so crazy about?

the above quote seems more like trolling to me, in as far as it gets way off topic and overly personal

i was using the gun control debate as an example to highlight if you dont sling mud first it usually isnt slung back at you, and it is possible to talk about something controversial without flying off the handle.

actually i thought the whole trolling thing could have even referred to me as i post alot of comments on all sorts of blogs, and am not shy of disagreeing, i didnt realise it was aimed all at one person . . . i didnt notice your name in the URL at first but you are right now i see that it was obviously directed at you . . . trolling isnt just disagreeing (as you do) though its swearing and being abusive for no reason

as winston would say: just my two cents worth

ps: which blog did you get called a troll on?

iota deville is looking at me cross-eyed "this post is about ME morgan, why do you have to make everything about YOU?" haha sorry oatie!

Hi Morgan,

She is BEAUTIFUL ... and those eyes .. pure Aquarian?

May have to register GInger-Megs as a new gurlfriend ... (if I get a minute) ... they have much in common in their backgrounds ... meanwhile here's a very sleepy (laid back) wave to Iota, whom I couldn't love one iota less if I tried ... from MEgs

how marvelous to think Iota in the great outdoors ... update please on how she is making out without the cat box as a staple ... they are so funny when that first happens, aren't they?

Lilla ...

I don't think I've ever read anyone's words on the net like yours. You inject reality into this virtual world. I could read what you write all day long and never get bored.

I'd get frustrated. Because I'd want to meet the person behind the words. But I'd read them just the same. Because "reality writing" is my favourite type of reading ...

I've only ever had one long-term relationship. And that was with my ex-girlfriend Tracey. (I wrote shitloads on Orble about our relationship [with her approval (because we remain close friends to this day ... [In fact is was Tracey who suggested I write The Percival Street Chronicles ...

But the point? She was a cat-lover to the max. This post made me think of her, because to this day, I'll never get over the image I have in my head of her breaking down completely when the neighbour's cat died ... (we were looking after it at the time) ... It distressed her, distraught her, and left her completely bed-bound ... (Not that she wasn't a bed barnacle like most women? You have to pry them out of the damn thing with a crowbar most days ... )

I'd never seen a person get so emotionally upset over an animal before ... (I grew up in farmland territory where men killed animals for a living ... it must have hardened me). I think I loved her more in those few moments than I did at any other time, because to me? She was (and is) a focused, financially-independent woman in the main ... [To this day, I've never met anyone with a more balanced view on money ... She knows how to save it and spend it ... She's a beautiful soul Tracey) ... but to see her in her natural state? With no thoughts of finances, just absolute compassion? Childlike tears for a poor dead cat?

That's when I love people the most ... when they're their natural selves ... When they forget all the adult worries of this life and just be ...

It's probably why my favourite people in the world are children ...

Why am I writing all this? Well, the intention was to visit your blog Morgan ... Maybe I get nervous around you? Even when you're not around? ...

Nup, I'm just speaking what's on my mind ...

I'd better go before I write something I don't regret ...

"drag cat" is my favourite pic ... [and I love the pic of Lilla's cat saying hello ...

hi david,
i like how you picked a photo essay with practically no words to compliment my writing! haha i think that will just cement your reputation as an eccentric!
a comment devoid of criticism yet high on flattery and praise, how could i complain?
is this going to be the start of you sending nice comments to everyone?
was your girlfriend Tracey the same person as your wife? i thought you said you were married . . .
anyway, thanks for having a read and sharing a story (whether it be fantasy or not we will never know)
