Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

Jared, I love you . . .

i found this wonderful boy on YouTube that i just cant stop watching . . . hes a peaceful thoughtful sort of boy who has this soothing way of simplifying seemingly complex problems . . . it is so refreshing to see someone who has no qualms about admitting "i dont know" but also the bravery to then go on to tell you how he feels in this world of uncertainty

great speaking voice, perfect pace, an attractive face, and a commanding presence . . . this kid should be on tv, i know i would tune in

i think Jared is wise beyond his years, or perhaps i just admire his idealism in a world of cynics and pessimism and depression

hi Jason,
i like the overall message of "stop being arseholes to each other" haha
i have a lot of faith in the younger generation - i cant wait until they are all in positions of power!

Hi Morgan
I woke up really groggy from the heat and saw this. It is a great find. Jared is so genuinely nice my eyes were starting to prick with tears. He has a very calm and kind presence. And, obviously, an enquiring mind. I also feel hopeful about the younger generation. Kids today are much more thoughtful.

G'day Morgan

I watched this a couple of times and yes he seems like a genuinely nice lad, with so much to offer and not alot of bulls*it going on.

But not knowing him outside these video's - and having had some exposure to a number of similar ideallists with genuine warmth and intent I have some concerns for his welfare in the immediate future - given his deep, deep thought processes - inner soul searching and outlook.

Sometimes (hopefully not in Jared's case) these kids lurch one of two ways - from an ideallist to a crusader or defeatist - rationalising in their own minds that they can't do anything within their own power to change the world or it the people in it - and eventually become either reclusive or worse . . .

I agree - it's refreshing to see an old soul in a young body - let's hope that Jared's life isn't completely absorbed by his inner thoughts alone . . .

Thanks for bringing Jared to us . . .

hi MNG,
i think ive posted the two most serious of Jared's vlogs, but i do understand where youre coming from
in the more lighthearted vlogs he jokes around and laughs and introduces real-life friends and makes compilations of online friends videos and does more creative work with film and music
however i found the serious monologues to be the most compelling personally
probably says more about me than him
i very much covet the idealism of youth, i lost it somewhere along the way and i think it is such a great quality that you can never quite get back
observing an idealist is one of those magic rare moments like having a wild animal eat out of your hand
thanks for your comments

Um hi Morgan.

Are you being serious? Were you a little drunk when you posted this?

Sorry, but, um... I think Jared seems like a shameless self-promoter in the same vein as Chris Crocker, or well any fag with a webcam and a penchant for celebrity (David Paris and Brendan McClean come to mind).

Anyway yes, I don't think he's serious in the slightest-- He's an American (by the sound of it) for fuck sake!

hi alt_ed,
any fag with a webcam?
so nasty!
hey he could have done an exotic hula/belly dance to some britney or madonna . . . i think he has a bit more integrity than that . . . or maybe just not enough confidence in his mid-section
i believe Jared is a college student originally from Boise, Idaho

I like what he said about Christianity and homosexuality. Religion SHOULD be a personal thing. A friend of mine is gay and has very strong faith that the God he worships loves him for being the person he is; caring, loving and a very good person. Jared seems to realise this. Nice.

hi Cheryl,
if it brings people comfort i can see it has its place
i like how Jared can admit to fault in the bible and advises people to think about what theyre reading and consider the context and relevancy
i think people should advise others about matters of faith as readily as they would advise them how to masturbate . . . sparingly and privately
thanks for watching!

I think that's the funniest thing I've read in a long time

Personally I think religion should stay behind closed doors but it means so much to my friend and I totally respect his commitment. I wish I could have that blind faith but I just don't, it makes no sense to me.

hi Cheryl,

Dear Morgan,

Thank you for sharing Jared's wisdom with us, this makes me want to create my own vlog... nice name for video-log!

It's comments like this that make me wonder if you're as asexual as you say, lol.

Sorry I haven't been around much, btw, will try to make up for it...
