Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

Lena Headey is a 35 year old English actor, a favourite in the queer community, and a rising star in the sci-fi and fantasy realm.

With her role as Queen Gorgo opposite Gerard Butler in the film 300, and her lead in the American TV show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Lena has started to become a familiar face.

Love her!
She has such a strength in her. In 300 she didn't even need the Spartans - she was strong enough to take the pricks on by herself.

hi Jason,
shes one of those actors that i always do a double-take and go "is that . . .?" and then it turns out to be her
i remember her best in Imagine Me & You, but when i see her list of credits all the film memories come flooding back
she is a tough little lady hey!
thanks for the comment

I like the tutu pic.
I didn't realise that's her as Sarah Connor. I haven't watched the show, however I'm really looking forward to Terminator: Salvation, the trailer rocks!
I know she's not in the movie, but Lena already rocks, of course.

i didn't know about Lena but she certainly has put together a good acting resume, even if some of the roles aren't leading ones.

I'll have to keep a look out for her next gig.

hi Bryn,
the tutu pic is amazingly beautiful isnt it
im so glad i read your post to get an update on what shes doing . . . i think she has some Bowie-esque androgyny going on

hi Janet,
its funny how sometimes actors have long careers but their brilliance only bubbles to the surface later in life . . . just look at Tilda Swinton!

she is, of course, delicious...

...am I the only one that thinks she has that look that Keira Knightley gets so much attention for, but Headey pulls it off with considerable ease?

Morgan, yes, very Bowie-esque, although she looks especially feminine in The Broken, albeit glamorous

hi Cibbuano,

she has that look that Keira Knightley gets so much attention for

you are not alone in that opinion, many americans seem to think Keira and Lena are identical twins, and personally i think Lena is the better looking one . . . completely effortless and natural

ive also seen her compared to Lara Flynn Boyle, but thats probably more of an insult haha

I so agree. I can't stand Keira and I loathe the comparison. Lena can act Keira out the window. And she's easily a more striking woman too.

hi Bryn,
im so keen to see The Broken now!
Lena is such a great drawcard!
and is anyone more feminine then Bowie? lol

what I meant, was she has less of that androgyny going on in The Broken ... She gets her gear off too btw

haha "act Keira out the window"
i dont mind Keira as an actor, i think shes getting better, but Lena blows her out the water!

(arrghhh, im like half a second behind you in responding haha)

i get it, shes more of a lady and less of a tomboy, shes had some fairly gender-neutral/masculine roles, stuff with a tough exterior, it will be interesting to see a bit more of her softer side

for some reason i cheer on English women with nudity, they seem to less gratuitous with it, more dignified (as opposed to Halle Berry or Sharon Stone etc) . . . Lena was a bit nude in 300 too, good on her!

Sean Ellis, the director of The Broken doesn't film the nudity gratuitously.
I forgot about her nudity in 300, she gets raped doesn't she?
My favourite part of that movie, by far, is the sequence on the mountain with the female floating - semi-nude - Oracle. Amazingly sensual and hypnotic.

HA! I've just realised that's Bowie on your blog banner! How apt!

Comment by Morgan Bell

yep Bowie, semi-nude in some ruffle dress contraption . . . raising his eyebrows of course . . . cant get a better banner than that!

what a great description of your favourite scene!

Hey Morgan - great little profile on an actress who packs quite a punch. Although I'm not a massive Chronicles fan, she makes a pretty good Sarah Connor. And you guys are spot-on with the Keira Knightly comparison

Comment by Cibbuano

April 3rd 2009 06:17
No doubt about it - Headey runs circles around Knightley, who seems to rely on her only tool, standing there with her mouth open to convey sexy/stunned/disappointment/a nger/shock.

hi Matt,
yeah i like Lena as Sarah Connor, even though i dont think the series is as good as the original movies, i think she is a highlight in the tv version
ah and you can see the Keira Knightly thing too, see Cibbuano isnt crazy! haha

hi Cibbuano,
its an all-purpose expression!
did you see her in The Duchess?
i thought she captured the emotions of "exhausted" and "betrayed" or "stung" pretty well . . . i have confidence in her improving with time!
