Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

NEW Cornell album - Timbaland RnB dub - due Sep 08

July 22nd 2008 18:18
Here are some preview snippets from the upcoming Chris Cornell album, due for release in September 2008. Cornell is collaborating with RnB producer Timbaland for a fresh new sound.

A friendly YouTube user has sliced the preview snippets of the new songs together in a slideshow.

The songs in order are:
Watch Out
Long Gone
Ground Zero
Part Of Me

The album has not yet been completed or titled.

This musical style may seem a bit out of left field for fans accustomed to the hits of Audioslave or post 1994 Soundgarden hits, but Chris' interest in dub and sound layering has existed from Soundgardens 80s origins . . . does anyone remember Fopp?

From the 1988 EP of the same name, i give you Fopp:

Oh what is Chris up to now?!
This is a fine example of what happens when you cut your hair - you become a complete tool.

hi Dea,
im a die-hard Cornell fan and even i was surprised by the move . . . the first song has a bit of a Justin Timberlake or Nelly Furtado vibe to it . . . ill be the first one lined up at the CD store to buy it, but it is definately a huge departure from the stadium rock that he is most famous for!
thanks for the comment!

I am also a die-hard Cornell fan and I do not know what to think about it. When I first heard it I thought it was a joke. We will see how his fan base responds to it.

hi Mis,
here is a selection of disgruntled comments from his MySpace:

Chris- You looked great on Fashion Rocks. But it was the Timberland Show and I could have cried seeing my rock god do Techno.

what are u doing?!?!?! this s*** with timbaland is terrible!

STOP degrading the music scene of the 90's with such pure inanity. Musically, you are among the most gifted individuals ever to have lived in fact, your talent is inhuman, and your music throughout the grunge era was a gift to us here on Earth. Your capacity is worth more than wasting on commercial mass-production of the 21st Century. Please don't bury youself in that empty category. Please stop or either just... Leave it.

It's like watching a car crash. I don't want to watch it but I can't help but turn my head.
Was Chris realy singing last night? An artist has the right to experiment, but damn this experiment sucks!!!

there were positive ones aswell as the negative
personally i think he deserves the latitude to experiment and what ive heard so far has been pretty good quality - ill definately be buying the album - ill come back and review it when ive got it in my hot little hands!
