Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

protect your cervix with one little prick . . . ouch!

well three little pricks actually . . .

i just had my third and final immunisation injection today . . . the vaccine is called Gardasil and it is free to women in Australia for women aged 12 - 26 years though a GP (or in schools if you are a wee little girlie) . . . you need to commence the course before you turn 27 and thats this year for me

the injections are administered to the upper arm, the first one hurt so much i wanted to kick the doctor in the face . . . i could felt the stinging liquid penetrating the muscle and it came up in a small bruise . . . the second one hurt, but less intensely . . . and the one today still bit like a mini-bitch . . . but BETTER THAN CERVICAL CANCER hey?

The National Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) Vaccination is running in Australia between July 07 until June 09

The HPV vaccine, Gardasil can prevent FOUR of the HPV types . . . two of the types are responsible for 70% of cervical cancer . . . the other two are responsible for 90% of genital warts . . . HPV is a sexually transmitted infection which is detectable via abnormal cells in a pap smear . . . most women who have HPV slowly clear the virus naturally and do not develop cervical cancer . . . it usually takes more than ten years for HPV to develop into cervical cancer

OVER 200 WOMEN DIE EACH YEAR IN AUSTRALIA FROM CERVICAL CANCER

All women within that age group should take advantage of this immunisation. I have known of so many people that have suffered both minor and major cervical cancers. Not only is a threat to life but also a threat to fertility.

Good for you Morgan!

Great headline by the way

hey thanks Cheryl!
someone in my family had a cervical biopsy procedure just recently . . . pap smears have been great for early detection and hopefully this immunisation will reduce the incidence of cervical cancer even further . . . i think most people probably know a woman who has discovered abnormal cells at some stage (unfortunately)

Hey Morgan
When I was 24 and pregnant with my beautiful son they found I had Hpv and it was grade three. I instantly thought CANCER, but 25 years later I am still here. But I have had to live with this disease for all those years and no matter what operations and treatment I had they could not kill it. I have had examinations you can't even begin to imagine and the treatment 20 years ago was pretty rough. So to all you young things out there, save yourself 25 years of never knowing whether cancer is growing inside you, of wondering if this disease will kill you eventually and get the bloody needle. It will save you all so much stress and a lot of embarrassment believe me !!

hi gaye,

what a wonderful endorsement from someone who lived through it . . . thanks so much for the comment!

i know some parents have been hesitant to allow their daughters to receive the course of injections as they mistakenly believe it is a contraceptive but it is really just an immunisation against a harmful virus that they may contract later in life . . . i would recommend all young women who are eligible to receive the shots take the government up on its free gift!
