Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

the multiple heads of the dragon . . .

April 28th 2008 19:24
so youre new to the land of orble, youre browsing around and trying post a few blogs and interact with the local community when out of nowhere some crazy red dragon comes storming out of its cave with laser red eyes a scorching hot flames blasting from its bloody nostrils . . . it tries to burn you for wandering into its territory . . . you get your little sheild out to protect yourself and stab it in the face a few times just for the fun of it . . . it recoils and ducks its head back in to the darkness

phew . . . that was bizarre but it could have gotten annoying fast . . . you were just trying to take a nice little stroll and hang out with your friends . . . you dont want angry dragons going insane for no apparent reason

you turn your back on the dragons cave and start off back towards the main village of orble, but you only get a few paces before the ground erupts in front of you and some weird purple dragon snaps in your face and tries to devour you with its gnarly fangs . . . whats with all these dragons? im just trying to walk around man! leave me alone!

the purple dragon looks vaguely like the red dragon, same hideous attitude, same crazy relentless behaviour . . . snap, snap, it tries to take your head off . . . you step back and prepare to raise your sword again . . . but then one of the fair maidens from the town of orble runs out from the direction of the cave "its all the same monster, it just has multiple heads, it travels underground, stab your sword into the ground"

you plow your sword into the soil under your feet and the purple head howls and whips around . . . back in the cave the shrill cries of the red head permeates the air at the same time . . . but then from behind the dense leafy shrubs a blue head bobs up and also lets out a blood-curdling wounded howl . . . you whip your head around in amazement to observe the spectacle . . . bubbles begin to form in a nearby puddle and a yellow head splashes to the surface whimpering in pain . . . how many friggin heads does this thing need?

the maiden explains:

"it has five heads so it can monitor all the corners of our fine land without appearing like one single control freak . . . for many months we thought there was a group of dragons, each with its own interests and territory, we presumed each could be appealed to seperately . . . but soon we saw that none of them were approachable and they were all prone to unprovoked attacks"

the maidens story disturbs you . . . the multi-headed dragon is not just a wildly antagonistic creature of destruction, it is deceptive and it is creepy . . . pretending to be several different creatures gave the false impression of a united front intended to intimidate to kind community of orble . . . this was a new and perverse way of marking territory even worse than being pissed on!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh it's too funny!!!!!

And you have read between the lines perfectly! I had a post about this in the wings to pull if I felt the need - this is so much better! Especially in light of her last post about you... heh heh.

oh it was all for you michaelie! haha
im hope a few people get a laugh out of the absurdity of the situation!
if you do write a post i would love to read it so post the link in the comments over here ok

i wonder what it like to be a weird multi-headed dragon trying to piss all over everyone and then using one of your mouldy heads to try and whine for sympathy and having every single person who responds telling you to pull your head(s) in? hahaha

Jason, you may have run into her in one guise or another and just not known it! Haha.

Morgan - I wrote it a while ago so might update it and post it, will link if I do.

I have enough trouble keeping up with one personality, but I can only imagine it would be mighty interesting having five heads, with one brain shared out between them!

But it's not the multiple heads per se that I have the problem with - it's that none of them are good value, either nasty or ridiculous, and they are used to promote each other and launch joint attacks on others!

It is an absurd situation all right - I'm glad there's a few of us who can have a laugh about it!

You and me both Winston. I was up until 3 am last night catching up on it all. Read Morgan's last post on this blog and her post entitled "why are old people so noisy?"

So do you think this means war Morgan? Are you going to create some extra personas to make it an even fight?

I'm new around these parts and haven't yet come across any of these multi-headed dragons of which you speak.

Although, I've encountered this type of beastie in other realms of the interwebs. So, I think I'm picking up what you're putting down.

HAhaha Morgan,

I loved this story and the wisdom of that fair maden?

Priceless.

I have watched thisGoliath of a hydra thrash about now for a couple of years - even been bitten myself a couple times!

One head was partially sleighed by a wonderful David, late in 2006 ... but it was after this stage that in 2007 the morphing of new heads began ...

Well done, bravo for your witty sword.

michaelie,
i would be very interested to read anything you have to write, and at the moment im finding this whole topic fascinating

winston,
i recently uncovered an orble writer with several personalities, all of whom are really aggressively anti-Morgan . . . i was artistically inspired by the conflict and penned a cautionary fable to hand down the generations . . . the original drama unfolded on this blog CLICKHERE for "the best thing you will ever put in your mouth . . ." (the most popular blog i have ever written with very little content, over 180 votes, and a good looking dude with not much clothing)

hi Ruby,
thanks for stopping by and viewing my artistic endeavour . . . it seems throughout the ages conflict inspires creativity . . . but no haha i dont think i will be making any more personalities, anything i have to say i stand by and am happy to put my (one) name and face to . . . i would rather not have conflict (esp when theres no solid issues to debate) but i refuse to be taunted, bullied and slandered like im the ethnic kid in the school yard . . . i respect anyone who wants to debate about religion, law, politics, science, the environment, diversity etc in a civilised way, but stomping around making your territory isnt really constructive

hi Brad,
welcome! thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment! the great thing about orble (and the internet in general) is the right of reply . . . yes ive felt a little targetted by one person (with five personalities), but about 15 other people have come together and supported my writing and made me feel welcome . . . im glad we have another film reviewer, i like your Movie Junk blog, i hope every one checks out your Ben Affleck post CLICKHERE for "why Ben Affleck should never act again"

Comment by Morgan Bell

April 29th 2008 06:57
ooooh look more replies while i was answering the last bunch . . . everyone is so friendly around here!

hi Lilla,
thankyou so much for the compliments, i am glad you enjoyed the read and got a laugh . . . i always believe when dragons throw lemons at you that you should pick them up and make lemonade . . . this whole strange little scenario has ignited my creative flame which is fabulous because i my original intention with blogging was to practice writing more . . . how fascinating how many people are coming out of the woodwork saying they were aware of this diabolical mythical creature but were too polite to say anything . . . i find the whole thing curiouser and curiouser!

howdy Gaye,
oh you love me! what a wonderful declaration! haha
thanks for all the encouragement and kind words!
i seem to only get called names by one extremely aggressive and disgruntled person who apparently is working under at least five different names . . . i think this may require more investigation, the senior member of our orble family keep giving away more clues as to how the creature evolved? i feel like i have uncovered a huge juicy secret!

the maiden is loosely based on the lovely Michaelie, the dragon was loosely based on events that unfolded on the comments of this post: CLICKHERE

I'm lucky in that the person you mention hasn't bothered me much recently... I went back to old Daily Inspirations posts and deleted most of her comments yesterday...

Btw, Lilla, do you really think David was wonderful? He always struck me as a misogynstic, lightly homophobic, sex-obsessed hack. He said some pretty nasty things about me here as well: Really Long Link

In fact, I have more issues with him than I do with katyzzz and co.

BAHAHAhaha well said!

hi Norm,
a man of little words! thanks for the vote! im not a fan of offal myself!

now Epiphanie,

whoa those were some strongly worded comments on that post, thanks for providing the link, it was all very interesting . . . so whats the back-story there? i take it that there was something to do with jake gyllenhals sexuality and some altered pics?

Also, Wordophilia was not deleted because of katyzzz... back then, there was a core group of female writers, very active in the Orble community. David crossed the line with a very derogatory post, several of the writers were quite upset. Previous to this, we had warned him a few times, but this was too much.

that was how Cibbuano described what happened with Davids blog being removed.
do you remember the post he mentions?

As for the post that finally earned Wordophilia's deletion, I didn't see it, and while the sudden absence of the blog was discussed on several blogs there were no direct references to the (particularly) offending material. Hi PmC,

Wow, thanks for the link - what a conversation *cough* you two certainly locked horns (I had no idea)?

To answer your question : the Diasporic comment went over my head, as I am not sure I have a complete handle on its meaning, other than the scattering of what the Bible refers to as the "chosen ones' : dispersed to the four corners of the globe?

How that relates to your 'deconstructionism' is totally beyond me to figure out with the little time I have today in getting through my own daily routine?

I always enjoy the quizzes that orbleers put up and never take them 'seriously' ... hell I'm probably a Gender Nazi too .. (even worse) *chuckle* although par se I am not homophoic at all ... (now I'm curious) and I'll go and take the quiz this afternoon and let you know thanks.

I don't agree with name calling, especially when there is time to cool off before typing... it's not like you have this limited time - face to face...but this dragon bit me hard and is particularly talentless and I thought David wonderful for calling a spade and spade in this case... I was not referring to other things he said and did, just in reference to Morgan and this post... keepin it in context here, okay?

Dear-oh-dear ..blogging can take just too much time and I was a loner at school and am fast becoming one within the orble community as well .. I have the unhappy ability to see both sides in all arguments and so cannot ever take one.

...but generally speaking, as an objective observer, it seems that the art of debate is lost completely to fast ego's and hot wind, intellectualism and pride; bigotry and narrow-mindedness ... mostly there to mask inferiority and superiority complexes, rather than exhibiting true curiosity about their fellow beings?

However, to this end, I find orble fast becoming a really effective forum for differences of opinion, and I think in the long run as a social experiment (if you will), is proving to be a fabulous spawning ground for real spiritual growth, allowing people to work out the abused pasts and current turrets syndromes; lack of parental recognition and attention; underachievement and inflated sense of self's and other things, through keyboard interaction and the inability to avoid each other for long ... myself included here okay?

You are an intellectual, David seems more emotional, although certainly not without intelligence, and I doubt you are without emotion either - to me - you just both highlight a different aspect of the two natures to the outside world... but both possess equal parts of each anyway - probably as coping mechanisms, as I said and neither that close that I should worry about it too much?

I am sorry when anyone is insulted - especially if my own tactlessness or short-sightedness has caused it - as is the case sometimes. I have always found you to be a really interesting person and courteous too... David, not always as polite for many, I agree ... but then we agreed to disagree on basics early on and settled it quickly.

Sometimes E, I have found that we must learn to agree to disagree agreeably, in order to get along in life and make real friendships ... and not just 'clicks' and gangs who thrive on victimisation of those weaker, or less intelligent than themselves and try hard not to go there myself on either side.

Oh my, I am still LM(E)ears O... what really gets me laughing though is when those five heads start conversing with each other patting themselves on the back (as in recent post) all of them - perhaps even *Gaye???*...

I always have a sudden revulsion gag reflex when this happens and know my psychic powers are too well honed for it to all be conincidence, besides I don;t believe in coincidence anyway.

whenever you post something (anywhere) i want to write it my notebook so i can refer to it when i lose perspective . . . you are more calming than a sedative (thats a compliment!)
if you publish a book of philiosophy tell me and i WILL buy one!
i am often a blank slate screaming out for some direction . . . and i admire your level-headedness!
i can vouch for Gaye as extremely polite and considerate and she has gone out of her way to make me feel welcome (plus shes too much of a feminist) to be a head of the dragon . . . unless its some rogue nice head, in which case i suggest the creature chop all the other heads of and stick with the good one! haha
i find on the internet it is best not to take personal offence at anything, stick up for yourself sure, but remember an online person is really just a persona of what the real man/woman WANTS to be and its pointless insulting each other . . . your critics dont know anything about your real life complexities, only the things you allow them to see

ps: i also find it REALLY funny when the five heads talk to each other and tell each other how wonderful they are BAHAHahaha

Hey Lilla,

You'll note that the exchange happened about a year ago - I doubt David will ever get back to me, and that may be for the best. I certainly have no interest in being friends with him, unless he undergoes a massive personality change!

Maybe he's anti-Semitic too, I have no idea.

If you want to take the quiz search for 'What kind of postmodernist are you?' on Google or something as I deleted the post AnthonyB links to last year. I should put it back up again.

Btw Lilla, I meant what I said to Michaelie on D. Armenta's 'Black Night' post, and unfortunately it seems it applies to you too...

Hi E,

I am sorry to hear your decision, but respect your rights ... I will still however, have the pleasure of reading and voting on your often, birlliant philosophical insights and observations, and for that I am happy.

I will also not take this personally and still interpret your dream as you have requested earlier... today in fact, as I had cleared some time to do so.

I am a little dissapointed and confused by your singularity of mind when it comes to taking such a fixed stand - as it contradicts your philosophical outlook? I am glad you are not a queen with the power to have my head chopped off for consorting with people whom may also be able to help enlighten and illuminate - albeit ones you don't like - with opinions other than you and yours... gosh, I think I would be in grave trouble right about now if that was the case, wouldn't I?

Lots of Light and Laughter to you E, and no hard feelings, okay? I have enjoyed "meeting: you and our chats together. Feel free if you want to read or comment on any of my posts, as they will not change in essence because David has resurfaced on orble and that every now and again, even though I myself may not even support his other views, he may speak something that makes sense ... everyone has a point of view, ethics, and a set of values.

I hope you find many who share yours, because I know that without orble, life is less full for me too ... life is too short and wonderful ... and you are always welcome to talk to me when (and if) you need to.

Lilla,

Thank you for your message, now that you've explained why you intend to keep in touch with him I do have less of an issue with it... I often do try to appeal to all sorts of people myself, it's just that David so frequently disappoints me that I would find it very difficult to do what you are doing in this case. In the light of what you said, you're still welcome to post on my blogs... My real issue is with people who tacitly support misogyny, sexism, racism, homophobia and putting down people who are overweight or not pretty looking (and that's just from what I've read, which is not much!), perhaps without realising the seriousness of what they're doing. My advice to you would be to be careful that your enjoyment of David's finer qualities doesn't make you more tolerant towards his flaws, because he needs to know that his hateful comments are NOT okay.
Actually, I'm kind of glad someone has the patience to deal with David's issues, as I certainly do not!

I look forward to the dream analysis, thanks for that!

Thank you for your concern, but I think you have missed my point, however, now I have run out of time, and patience with your instances that I explain to you whom I talk to on Orble, and whom I do not and why.. the problem here was the Dragon not David...

I don't understand what you mean when you say I have missed your point. I thought I was congratulating you on being altruistic enough to help out people in dire need of spiritual growth. I never even asked you to explain your approach to David - you provided that yourself.

You don't have to interpret my dream, it's fine.

And I actually found it offensive to be compared to a murderous queen, considering I don't approve of monarchies and I am a great supporter of freedom of speech and human rights. I'm sorry if you feel oppressed, but I am simply protecting myself from unconscientious Orblers. I find it disturbing that you think I would wish destruction upon anyone.

I hope you feel more relaxed soon,

hey Lilla,

well it might have been originally raised by someone else but i do agree, Michaelie has shown alot of insight into how the multiple personalities can be (if abused) a downfall to the site . . . while someone is boosting their own points they are bombarding the recent (above 20 votes) list that is default on the homepage so new writers find it more difficult to get noticed

this story could definately apply to mother-in-laws or practically any meddling old biddy . . . a nosey neighbour nanna . . . the strict head-mistress of an ultra-conservative private school . . . any character that works with multiple diguises to create the illusion of a united front!
