Morgan Bellthe news: allow me to indulge my ignorance of the big concerns

I would like now, if i may, to write a list of things i just dont understand why people get so worked up about . . . this is just an excercise in brainstorming, random thoughts of things i find puzzling in the news and have not yet found the answers to
Genetically Modified food . . . it seems like something that is intended to be good yet is always depicted in the media as being bad, people seem terrified of genetic engineering when i think all its doing is creating more resilient versions of plants so they dont have to be drenched in as many pesticides, fungicides and associated dioxins . . . frankly i think pesticide sprayed foods are far less appealing than genetically modified foods . . . am i missing the big picture?
Fluoride in drinking water . . . im 26 and ive never had a tooth filling and i believe it is because there was fluoride in our town drinking water . . . it may also be due to having a calcium-rich diet as opposed to my parents generation . . . but i am certain the fluoride is the major contributing factor to my strong teeth and bones, although it occurs to me that i have no evidence to support my belief and no knowledge of any detrimental effects, but logic tells me there must be somes cons that make people so passionate about it
Real sugar is not part of a healthy diet . . . i firmly believe Diet Coke gives you brain cancer, or any kind of cancer, and for that matter any kind of synthetic sugar subtitute (like equal sugar-free pills in your coffee) . . . ok i do actually believe this but not for any solid reason, its something that was in the media alot when i was a little kid and i reasoned that the heat given off by an "equal" sugar substitute was an unnatural sensation and that the energy it was giving off in chemical reactions just couldnt be good for you . . . i still avoid "diet" sodas and sweets to this day, yet it seems so popular with the rest of the population who obviously do not suffer my paranoia
Pornography on the internet . . . parents seem to be extremely worried about their children looking at porn on the internet and want internet providers to have filters on their services . . . it seems to me that theres just as much porn on the free-to-air prime-time tv programs, there are images of sex and nudity absolutely everywhere, esp in commercial advertising, gossip magazines, music clips, and teen films . . . detailed accounts of sex acts in all forms of media, art and culture . . . including politicians and sports idols . . . western culture is saturated with sex and nudity . . . i dont think most kids would access porn from a computer they knew their parents monitored the history of, just as kids dont usually ring up 1800 phone sex hotlines for fear of getting caught well the bill comes in
these are my musings, feel free to debunk the myths or relate other confusing news items
