Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

The Road Less Travelled by Morgan Bell

i nearly got blown off the road taking these photos, the weather was been wet and overcast for the last four days and with my deadline looming i thought i should just bight the bullet and see what i could come up with!

so here is my wet weather collection of a few less travelled roads in Tasmania:

in an effort to garner some sympathy i will give you the weather report from today

Temperature: 9-12 degrees
Wind speed: 54km/hour
Wind gusts: 76km/hour

im including this shot as my 6th photo because i think it best shows how miserable and windy the weather was today:

Nice pics.

So how does voting work? Do we pick our favorite from yours and it goes head-to-head against our favorite of alt-ed's?

I know which of yours is my favorite. ::making a note for later:::

Do you get bonus points for braving the inclement weather? Like in the Olympics where you get a difficulty score and a creativity score.

hi Ruby,
he handmade "no thru road" was pretty funny . . . i wouldnt dare go down there! haha
the last one was taken from inside my car because i was getting pelted - the tress are all being blown from left to right so they are on a bit of an angle

Pic #3 was my favorite. Again, it was thinking outside the box - a pathway down to the ocean. I love the waves of the rough ocean in the background.

I was born and raised right next to the Atlantic Ocean, and miss it very much now that I live smack dab in the middle of the country far from both oceans.

Also, I commented on alt_ed's too. I just thought we were picking a winner. lol

hi Gene,
well theres nothing saying you cant vote for both!
i would not have wanted to be on a boat on the Bass Strait today, it was crazy rough!

hi Ruby,
well at least you are sharing the love!
and after all isnt that what Orble is all about? all the virtual cuddles? HAHA

Maybe you just need to market this better?

How about you call it "The Greatest Art Contest In The History Of Orble The World" and get a pompous git with an inflated sense of self to 'moderate' it? That should get the word out.

Actually no, that wouldn't work. Blog posts about Orble writers always get deleted from the home page...don't they? *snort*

hi Ruby,
LOL (no really, i laughed out loud!)
yes there is a lack of consistancy with that little rule isnt there?
i could get desperate for readers and resort to egging on the most infamously antagonistic Orblers of all time by instigating some kind of a formal joust . . . hmmm if only you and Winston werent the same person, maybe i could have thrown you pair in the ring together?
maybe Kaytzzz and Crystal . . . oops nope, same person again . . .
oh i know: Ahmed and PoMo!
(although does it seem a bit redundant to have an "organised fight" between people who fight all the time anyway??)

Well all you have to do is get one person that everyone loves and one person that everyone loathes and you'll be on a winner. Just make sure that one of them is sardonic and satirical and the other one thinks that the Bible is the literal word of god. Bingo! Fireworks! And then you can sit back and take all the credit.

But most importantly, talk down to everyone you come across and pat yourself on the back at every available opportunity.

Hey, maybe we should write one of those How To... posts?

It looks a lot like the road to West Point. I like number 5.

hi Glen,
in number 5 the sun peeked out from behind the clouds for a second . . . i will have to visit West Point one day and compare it to northern Tasmania
thanks for the comment!

hi Ruby,
youve figured out the secret formula! haha
i think the talking down to people is one of those essential ingredients that so many people manage to bake without . . .

so if you posts here with your identity that counts as voting...ok..
my opinions;
photo 1
some merit, as it includes a phallic object, but only as a secondary focus and the subject is a "road" not a footpath and road.
photo2
bit boring
photo3
is this Tasmanian vaginal symbolism?
photo4
bit boring and its a gate
photo5
another vaginal symbol...bush..
photo6
badly exposed.

result is a FAIL!
sorry
you lose! lol

My verdict is, alt_ed...this week.

To be fair, Morgan you got the raw end of the weather deal.

PS: The gate photo is really lovely too.

Bring on week two!

hi Cheryl,
well to be fair he did take those photos over a year ago so in my mind ive already disqualified him on the technicality of not keeping in the spirit of the game . . . i think the comp was a bit of a flop, but im sure there will be plenty more creativity from each of us seperately!

Oh the cheater benita! He is SO disqualified!

Did you take that gate pic at sunrise or sunset? The colour is eerily pretty.

Alt-ed gets his cheeks slapped now - all 4 of them!

Hey Morgan,

Sorry I've been away for ages, I've been quite busy these past few weeks and hence less time for Orble.

First, some tips based on your first round of photos (yes, I read the post, just didn't have time to comment): Don't be afraid to experiment! Try getting your flowers and other conspicuous objects out of the exact middle of the photo - off to one side, in a corner, even half out of the frame if it offers an interesting visual. With flowers, you can get even closer to the bloom, which will mean you get more colour splashing into the photo (the background isn't so absorbing in these cases).

Finally, remember that it's no so much what you take a photo of as how you take it. You've chosen interesting sites here, but perhaps you were hesitant to get more enthusiastic about your subject matter? The weather probably didn't help you explore different angles and such.

Another trick I sometimes use is to tilt my camera about 30 degrees and see what happens.

As for Ahmed, he's pissed at me 'properly' now because he somehow got the impression that we were friends by talking on MSN for a while, and took offense when I had enough of him and took him off my list. I don't know how he thought we would ever be close, guess he's just lonely. Meh. So yeah, he probably doesn't want anything to do with me on Orble now, about which I can't really complain... *shrug*
