Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

Occupy Reality

November 16th 2011 08:25
This commentary is so good. It is funny, because it is frustration at absurd reality. I have watched it many times now, and whenever I need an example for delusional behaviour, or people with no self awareness, i find myself referring to it.

It reminds me of a little analogy come private joke that was generated from a period of share-housing, which can be summarised as "throwing your own pot in the yard".

The story is about a boy in a share-house, he is one of four people, and he owns the majority of the kitchen ware. Fed up with his three housemates never doing the dishes he grabs a cardboard box and hurls all the dirty plates and pots in. Then in a sweeping gestures storms out to the backdoor and throws the box of pots into the yard announcing "if nobody is going to take responsibility for cleaning them i am throwing them out". He threw his own pots in the yard.

It is the self defeating attitude that is common in these stories, and comical.

August 21st 2009 13:28
We all know the sassy street sista names like Shaniqua, Latifa, and Latoya.

They are the colourful ghetto girl names. Full of attitude. Full of syllables. Full of vowels and Qs.

Meet Andrew Cantu and Isaac Trevino. These two Hispanic school boys created a YouTube video with a Ghetto Names Countdown. Sixty gangsta girl names are listed, they are increasingly complex and hysterical.

This video was featured on Kanye West's official blog HERE.

The boys have started a t-shirt business related to the popular video HERE.

I've Already Been To Heaven . . .

August 21st 2009 08:38
. . . after five minutes I was like LETS GO!

This is dedicated to Norm.

Liam Kyle Sullivan, who brought us Kelly's Shoes and Txt Msg Breakup also brings us the following angsty drag music clip: Let Me Borrow That Top.

I can't get enough of this guy. If he had an album I would buy it.

Actually you can buy the songs individually or as an album on iTunes CLICKHERE.

Unlike someone we know . . . wow it's almost like Liam has met my parents and seen how we interact . . . something hard and sand-papery hahaha gold!

YouTube Atheists pack a punch

June 16th 2009 14:16
There is a really active and vibrant Atheist community on YouTube.

Here are my TOP FIVE favourite Atheist videos from YouTube. Some are pure comedy, some are philosophical, many contain interesting facts, and all of the users who created them are complete characters.

If you enjoy the videos be sure to check out their other work, there is a virtual goldmine available if you are curious to learn more about science, history, and politics as it relates to the non-believer.

Chk Chk Boom

May 26th 2009 18:34
Oh how I miss Kings Cross.

Seeing the Clare Werbeloff interview after the Kings Cross shooting brought all those fond memories back . . . memories of how absolutely munted people get in that unique nightlife locality.

The fat wog and the skinny wog? haha

So eloquent!

Clare is surprisingly only 19, but many people around The Cross take on that aged appearance. They have lived hard lives. Lives in the fast lane. Lives stumbling around in the parking lane.

Heres what Clare said that propelled her into internet stardom:

"There were these two wogs fighting. The fatter wog said to the skinnier wog, 'Oi bro, you slept with my cousin'. And the other one said 'Nah man, I didn't for shit, eh' and the other one goes, 'I will call on my fully sick boys, eh'. And then he pulled out a gun and went Chk Chk BOOM, and I ran away cos thats all I wanted to see."

She had the "wog" accent down, and the gun sound effects. She's going to be a star. When opportunity knocks, let's hope she doesn't need to be peeled out of the William Street gutter. She appears to be taking a potent drug cocktail of fake tan and cocaine, but that wont hurt her career, as it seems to be the winning combination for most Australian TV personalities.

Rock on Clare, you bogan!

Jared, I love you . . .

January 28th 2009 17:10
i found this wonderful boy on YouTube that i just cant stop watching . . . hes a peaceful thoughtful sort of boy who has this soothing way of simplifying seemingly complex problems . . . it is so refreshing to see someone who has no qualms about admitting "i dont know" but also the bravery to then go on to tell you how he feels in this world of uncertainty

great speaking voice, perfect pace, an attractive face, and a commanding presence . . . this kid should be on tv, i know i would tune in
