unleashing the artist within . . .
March 27th 2008 09:45
i started my first painting in a very long time today . . . and it was surprisingly fulfilling.
i know arts and crafts are often recommended as therapy for people with chronic, debilitating or terminal illnesses to get their mind off the pain and discomfort of treatments . . . a friends father was battling cancer and he took solace in growing bonsai trees and painting . . . it gave him something positive to focus on . . . being a working-class middle-aged man he actually sucked all the relaxation out of the activity by turning it into a competition and "speed-painting" churning a new artwork out every half hour haha but he was happy because he was productive.
well thats how i felt today: productive, creative, content, inspired
and i found once i had painted for awhile i was suddenly overwhelmed with motivation to write, i got my "ideas book" out and scribbled pages of notes for story ideas . . . all from putting the first layer of paint on a simple landscape . . . i think i oiled the creaky old creative doorways of my mind with some visual stimulation . . .
i think i unleashed the artist within! <insert dramatic violin music here>

Since you are in rural setting, why not get a HUGE canvas, or bedsheet of whatever, and get really physical with big buckets of paint, sqeeze bottles, use a fan to spray fine mist...etc
wish I could organize that myself actually....hmm..

smash a few beer bottles into it and stub out a few cigarettes? haha
wouldnt it be wonderful to have a big studio just for art where you could go nuts!
at present im restricted to a corner of the garage and my mother saying "now dont you get any paint on anything" . . . i presume im allowed paint on the canvas! haha

Or, do it in the garden, using vegetable dyes and get on with the splashing! Ever see that smart arse dude in the USA, who came up with the gimick of throwing a pot of paint into the air, in front of a spinning aircraft propellar, the resultant spray covering a canvas he set up...he sold them for small fortunes...annoyingly the effect was quite nice too..
how I LOATHE fake artists, even though, sometimes, I kind of admire their utter impudence!
cheers
