Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

will the real William Morris please stand up?

Is that William Morris Eyewear, established in the UK in 1997 by Robert William Morris?

Or is it William Morris (1834 –1896), British wallpaper and fabric designer?

Or it could be William "Billy" Morris (born 1957), the American glass artist born in Carmel, California

I think the lesson here is that having a common name when you are an artist makes you extremely difficult to google . . . i recommend anyone named Willam Morris with an ounce of creative flair select a name like Bowie or Elton to set yourselves apart from the pack!

I was googling William Morris because its the brand of a new pair of glasses i recently purchased and i wanted to show the Orble community a picture (mine are brown not muti-coloured) . . . i think i like them even more than the outrageously expensive Dolce & Gabanna frames i had before

MORE INFO ON THE OLD WILLIAM MORRIS:

William Morris (1834-1896) was among the most creative artists Britain has ever produced. His accomplishments are extraordinary in their range and depth.

He was a revolutionary interior designer and book printer, a staunch socialist, a famous and prolific poet, a weaver, embroiderer, dyer, calligrapher, translator, businessman, and architectural preservationist.

He established the internationally successful firm Morris & Company, for which he mastered the design and production of stained glass, wallpaper, printed and woven textiles, carpet, and tapestry.

The astonishing range and depth of his achievements make him a unique figure in the history of art and design. He expanded our definition of art by changing the way we look at and live with the everyday objects that surround us.

Morris fashioned new forms and styles by delving deep into the art and culture of the past, building a modern art on medieval foundations.

His artistic practices further led him to political activism and an idealistic vision of the future. Morris's art, his ideals, and his lifework paved the way for generations of artists who followed him in his pursuit of what he called "the beauty of life."

Beauty, which is what is meant by art, using the word in its widest sense, is, I contend, no mere accident to human life, which people can take or leave as they choose, but a positive necessity of life.
