Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

You CAN Make Money on Orble

June 29th 2009 05:58
"The ox is slow but the earth is patient."
Chinese proverb

money bag

When you first start a blog on Orble you may wonder if your earnings will ever start adding up. At first it is a few cents. You might do a silent "woo hoo" when you reach a dollar. I know I did a post when I hit $9.97 because I was so excited to have nearly reached the ten dollar mark.

It is a cumulative system where your earnings go up over time exponentially. However, many people give up in the first few month because they think they are not succeeding.

I just hit my second lot of one hundred dollars.

In sixteen months (1 year, 4 months) I have reached the payment threshold twice.

Converted to my own currency its not a bad piece of pocket money for doing something I enjoy.

At the end of my first month (March 2008) my account total was a tiny $0.48.

The above image shows my monthly adsense earnings and balances from April 2008 through to May 2009. You can see there are fluctuations month to month, some slow months where I was not posting as much, but on the whole there is a gradual increase.

It took me 10 months to earn the first US$100 (approx AU$165), and it has taken only 6 months to earn the next US$100.

I always thought it was "the earth is slow..."
No wonder I'm making so much money.
I have it backwards.
Top stuff.

Ahh, Now I know why my .09 cents seemed so wonderful to me. I'm glad I wasn't alone.

I also like the fact that you too write a blog about the wanderings of your mind. Much lighter than mine, but fun to wander through other people's minds. I kinda like that... nice writing.

I have similar earnings. About $20.00-$30.00 per month with adsense, but I am always striving to beat that. This month, I've made over $20.00 so far...my goal is to hit $30.00 by month's end. I've been on Orble about 1 year. It is slow, but steady. I remember my first day on Orble I made 60 cents! I, strangely, remember that figure. So, to anyone thinking of joining Orble, I will say that-if you are willing to work hard-you can earn twenty dollars or more per month here. It is a great community and we welcome you!

Now if only I could have 50 blogs making $2 per day....

Morgan, here's wishing you several hundred more dollars. You have such a fantastic writing style and great dedication.

There are a lot of readers in the world, and not as many writers, so those that produce good written content will prosper. The internet is providing many ways to be involved in that economic equation on a small scale, and even on a full-time income scale.

Good luck, hope your deeppencil makes for deep pockets!

I congratulate you Morgan and you should be pleased with your earnings

I am a reader of Associated Content and have a few friends who write articles for them. I truly wish I could join them, they are good article writers and earn between $40 - $200 per item. I wanted to join, but I'm not allowed - I live in Australia. Poor me.

I did notice (directed by an AC writer) a series of articles, admittedly 18 months - two years old, about our site! Espousing a $40 a week income plus. So it is possible.

I don't know how to provide links, but they were very interesting. They inspired me. I guess you could go to AC, type in our site name and read them. I quite liked reading them

Lis.

More power to you Morgan!

As I lay here in my hammock listening to the shore breeak caress the sands and wonder what the rest of the world is doing - I think about my early days as an Orble blogger and contemplate where I might be and how I might not have been able to afford this beach villa without Orble and Adsense's help.

What's more I just noticed Jon walk by - with a bevy of native beauties on each arm - heading towards one of his six condo's on the headland . . .

Folks - just as Orble takes 50% of your earnings - only 50% of this little tale is true - you can decide which half . . .

Good for you Morgan - think of all the red frogs you can buy . . .

Stay well

Morgan, it was one of the most tantalizing story that I've ever heard on deeppencil!

Congratulation, my friend. However, in order not to against the Google Adsense term, you shouldn't show out the following stats: Clicks, Page CTR and Page eCPM. In this case, you can cover it with black box (You can do it with MS Paint)

MNG,

In Perth are you? I believe the better half of what you say.

You forgot the Mint Julep

I think my AdSense is doing okay, I set up in Google's blogger site just to make sure. They think it's working okay

I think you have to hit the magic $20 first before they'll post a cheque.

I just want $34.95 to pay for Beagle.com.au each month. Then I can up the ante to $48.95 and get some really fast speed.

Comment by Morgan Bell

June 29th 2009 12:20
hi Wilson,

thanks for the heads up, i did not realise that was an adsense rule, i used MS-Paint as you suggested to block out those particular stats

you are a vault of knowledge

hi Cathy Setzer,
thanks for the congrats, i hope your blogging is going well

hi Unsane,
thanks for the compliments on my writing, i really appreciate it, and i glad you enjoy reading . . . its funny how the little milestones of progress can be so much more exciting than the big ones

hi Jason,
yay! you deserve some earnings, you work really hard at Salty Popcorn and its one of my favourite blogs on this network . . . i hope the next $100 comes even sooner!

hi moonglow,
$0.60 the first day is really impressive, you have obviously tapped into a niche market that is crying out for quality content . . . im glad to hear you now have a regular income steam from your blogs, keep up the good work!

hi OnlineWriter,
you have done really well, i think you are another person who has cornered a niche market that there is lots of interest in . . . your blogs always have lots of interesting and useful tips for writers . . . i hope you have continued success!

hi Waysouth,
ahh more compliments *blush*
thanks for your kind words, and i like your analysis of the online writing market, sometimes publishing blog posts seems like a drop in the vast internet ocean, but its great to see that searchability really does increase over time

Be careful showing exact figures and print screens. It's against Adsense TOS.

I think I make on average $20 a month for three of my blogs and about $5 on the other two. So I average about $70 a month from Orble. I'm pretty happy about that. Just wish I could make that on my own without Orble Ha.

hi Lis,
thanks for the congrats, i too was disappointed when i found out AC only awarded upfront payments to US residents
have you read the "ZCars Analysis" on Blog Adviser? it is a case study on an Orble blog that earns $40 per day
also HERE is the link to the AC article you were talking about entitled "Orble.com Pays Bloggers $40 Per Week.."

hi Anonymous,
thats why Jon is the genius and we are the worker ants lol

hi MNG,
hmmm sounds like Jon might be appearing in an upcoming episode of Cheaters if that kind of philandering continues . . . oh well its better than being on Cops

hi Ruby,
i will have to show you how it works, its all linked to your Google account and Gmail address, so if you can remember your login details from when you first signed up it would be a great start . . . you could always email Jon and ask what your adsense number is, and then email Google and ask to reset your account

hi Janet,
you and Ruby should definitely check your adsense accounts, you might be pleasantly surprised . . . you both run very popular blogs that attract alot of traffic, i would have imagined you would be doing quite nicely out of it

thanks again for all the great comments everyone, nice to see the community spirit is still alive!

These kinds of posts always interest me! Nice of everyone to share their earning rates. I've averaged $40 a month for the last six months, it took a year to get there though - prior to that it was less than $20 a month, but the growth rate really is exponential - I made 22c in my first month!

Once you've found your target market you just need to hang in there. I've only just started going through all my old posts and tagging the photos, so with any luck that'll bring me more traffic.... I'll have to wait and see.

Jon's the one making the real money, but he deserves it given that he took the initial big risk. As for everyone else, we get our broadband fees paid at least.

hi Journeywoman,

im always interested to hear about the progress of others, it helps put things into perspective if you have a few examples to compare yourself to . . . and i really like hearing about the teeny weeny first month amounts like your 22 cents or my 48 cents, they are so cute . . . i like when all the Orble gang gets together and shares battle stories

yeah Jon takes the risk and covers the upfront costs, and puts in a substantial amount of time doing maintenance and support and admin and complaints etc . . . i dont envy his job . . . if you have the initiative and skills to set up a business like this youve gotta expect to turn some kind of profit

thanks for your comment

I have been here since early 07 and I have never made a hundred dollars, despite being in the top twenty list for the majority of the time. It is only recently that I have allowed my blog to drop from the list, as that is not as important to me as posting on what I consider to be important.

I used to check adsense every few days, but I havnt bothered in a very long time. Last time I logged into my google account would have been nearly a year ago when they sent my pin number.

So in terms of the proverb, having actually farmed the land most of my life, farming has a much more tangible reward than blogging.

Morgan,

That's an interesting figure. As I am well under the age of eighteen I can't register with AdSense and therefore make Absolutely Nothing At All from blogging until I do turn eighteen. Something tells me that by the time I've hit eighteen I'll have a much larger readership and... gasp... actually be making money from it. Until then, it's all for the love.

I just realized something rather odd. You've been here for a year and a half... which means I've been here longer than you. I thought you'd been around forever. Apparently not, since I just hit my own two year mark in May.

hi Kleo,
hey as long as you are doing what you love, thats all that counts, your blog is far less commercial than many others, more like a personal diary, some creative writing and some journal entries about your life, i imagine it is quite therapeutic to write . . . i wonder if you will get a pleasant surprise the next time you log into your google account, just as an added bonus?

hi Toni,
there are quite a few inspirational stories on here, im glad you enjoyed the post!

hi Dianna,
haha yes you are officially my senior on the Orble network!
ill salute you next time you comment
when you do eventually become eligible for adsense you should get instant results as all the hard work of establishing your blog is already done
thanks for dropping in
