Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

playing favourites: TOP TEN Orble posts

July 11th 2008 18:12
this is by no means an exhaustive list but rather a few samples of writing i have really enjoyed on Orble so far

SATIRE . . .
i love really absurd satire . . .
these first six posts made me literally laugh out loud when i read them . . . the writers are all wonderful talents with the written word

1. CLICKHERE for "Tom Hanks Confirms Oscars Conspiracy" by John Doe

2. CLICKHERE for "Better Than Mark Knopfler" by Luke

3. CLICKHERE for "Kevin Rudd Orders Gerard Depardieu Into Anger Management" by Norm

4. CLICKHERE for "Charles Manson Seeks Appeal" by Ruby Soho

5. CLICKHERE for "Multiple Personalities In Film" by Michaelie

6. CLICKHERE for "Terrible Bogana Virus - Morgan Bell First Victim" by Fog

TOUCHING . . .
these two ladies inspire me so often with good-will and compassion, their insightfulness stops me in my tracks . . . they have been known to genuinely bring a tear to my eye . . . Oble can be as full of warmth as humour

7. CLICKHERE for "Sadness" by Cheryl J

8. CLICKHERE for "Do You Have A Dream You Want Interpreted?" by Lilla

CHALLENGING . . .

there is alot of politics on Orble and S.L. Brandish is one of the most frequent and consistant contributors, S.L. reminds me of my own father in her opinions so i usually try to find some common ground even though i know we disagree on many things . . . so i was pleased to find she wrote a book (something i am attempting myself), pleased to find the Orble inspires all sorts of people to write things outside their blogs
9. CLICKHERE for "Ready At Last" by S.L. Bradish

a heated discussion which reveals the debating style and personality traits of many Orblers
10. CLICKHERE for "Christians And Abortion" by Truth B. Told

Hi Morgan,

Thanks so much for including me in such illustrious company, yourself included. I admire the work of Fog, Michaelie, Norm, Ruby and Luke too.

I often find your own posts witty and mindful, entertaining and insightful.

As you can tell, my writers ego loves a boost and this one has made my weekend.

hi S.L,
i do always enjoy reading along with your blog to help me understand the other side of the story, and im impressed that you organised your ideas into a book . . . it actually really motivated me as a writer! thanks!

hi John Doe,
glad i could be of assistance in the ego boosting department!
of course i have enjoyed many many of your film reviews and movie lists but as a stand-alone piece of writing i thought your Tom Hanks article was genius . . . it totally sucked me in!
thanks for the kind comment

Why thank you lovely Morgan. I always love reading your posts. You cover such a broad range of topics and always do it with style!

hi Cheryl,
its my ecclectic mind! haha
i picked one of your more serious posts but i must admit i am subcribed because of your strange sense of humour and ability to uncover the unusual!
thanks for being a good influence!

Wow thanks Morgan, and what illustrious company I am keeping...wouldn't change a single one...well maybe one....but nine out of ten ain't bad...haha

I really appreciate this.

Morgan, you're the most gracious and generous of any here.

hi Ruby,
its Fog right? you wanna get rid of Fog? haha
his vicious (yet extremely entertaining) attack on me probably bothers alot of people
i could have easily picked a top ten just out of ThoughtZone if my criteria was purely research but the Charles Manson article was definately in the cream of the crop with creativity
its the laughs that keep me coming back to Orble as much as the debates (even though some of the debates are laughable)
i think all of the top ten articles would be a good starting point for any newbie Orblers

hi Norm,
i probably could have picked ten of your articles too but Gerard Depardeiu was beyond brilliant . . . it was snort your coffee out your nose funny . . . all hail the subtle subversive!

Dang! you got me Morgan...yes I have an aversion to fog...it must be the way he never researches his posts, spreads misinformation and just yells at anyone who disagrees with him...haha..love ya fog..hey, anyone who clicks on Luke's Mark Knopfler post please make sure you read the comments for that is where the fun truly lies. I actually read it a while ago and didn't realise the comments had grown so much....glad you gave me the chance to revisit it.

Truly great stuff.

I might point out that it was Morgan's insinuation into the pre=existing Damo debate, regarding trolls titled, "How to be a Happy Troll and do it Properly",
see link;
TROLL DEBATE

that elicited my numerous responses, waxing lyrical in my uneducated 'swine like Latin' that caused Morgan to jump on the bandwagon, with a terrible verbal assault upon my poor unsuspecting wretched and febriled frontal lobes, to wit;

Fog starts war of the online divas: GAME ON!
SEE LINK HERE;
LINK HERE

and it is this post of hers, that caused our tiny 'pseudo war' so, in fact Morgan was the first to launch a verbal missile and I was merely trying to defend my poor humble, near defenseless and much maligned self!!!

However, I thank you for the inclusion Morgan, albeit I didn't come in at number one... but last position, in the six listed of that section...

I will now draw your attention to an idea I had, last year, about Orble organizing an annual awards ceremony online. I even physically described the virtual award..

Here it is, worth a bit of a larrff, even though Orble has since (obviously) abandoned the idea, pity really.

Golden Orb Awards

cheers and I still adore you, even though I have suffered terribly!

LONG LIVE TROLLS!!!

TROLLS FOREVER!!!

TROLLUS IGNORAMUM MAXIMUS LONGEVITUM!!!!

ET TO BOGANUM!

hi Fog!
thanks for giving such a detailed history! haha
i can see how much you are suffering from the rainbow coloured latin . . . that is your way of bleeding!
i will check out the Golden Orb awards immediately!

ohhh, well well well, Ruby!!!

Dang! you got me Morgan...yes I have an aversion to fog...it must be the way he never researches his posts, spreads misinformation and just yells at anyone who disagrees with him...

For a start Ruby, there is a world of difference between emphasis and yelling!

I do not yell, just for the record.

I now know you must see yourself as an expert on everything you post, a serious researcher whose posts are infallible...

I have no such self-delusions about my own work, and by its nature it is very opinionated, of course, just like your own work...

However, I at least try to be entertaining, using satire and self-deprecatory humour when in the mood.

But to infer that I do not do any research, that my posts are spreading "misinformation", is actually incorrect and down right libellous!

You have sited one internet site to rebuke my assertions about UFOs. I have researched this area over many, many years; in field work, meeting with members of research organizations, documentaries, attending meetings and reading a lot of material from scientists, military, government whistle blowers etc etc etc.

All that has led me to certain conclusions.

I did not just 'click' on one internet site, devoted to rubbishing anything and everything without any scientific analysis, like your good self; (yes I did follow your suggested link...

Never heard of 'disinformation'?

You are entitled not to agree, you are entitled not to do any real research yourself, but you are not entitled to attack me in such a libellous manner!

fun stuff... it's too bad there's no one to actively post the best / most scandalous Orble posts... I seem to miss quite a few..

Comment by Morgan Bell

July 12th 2008 11:58
oh Fog,
now youve out-satired me, i know i was joking, and i know Ruby was joking in response to my joke, but are you joking? haha its like a satirical silly mirror reflecting back into itself for all enternity!
but just to be on the safe side rest assured Ruby was saying the opposite of what she thinks in good humour
we all know "spreading misinformation" is not your bag baby, Ruby is referring to one of her old jousting partners, i was just being silly dropping your name into it because of the irony that noone would ever want to get rid of you!

hi Cibbuano,
yeah there used to be a post of the week hey?
i guess i could always apply to write for that (if it is open to new members?) and post a few goodies as i see them . . . i dont know if im the most objective person but funny creative writing always sticks in my mind when i come across it

what are some of your favourite posts?

you are one of the most creative people i know!
dont worry, the lotto thing is getting me down too (maybe i should buy a ticket?)

Oh dear, fog honey, Morgan was right, I was joking,..dang satire can get you into trouble when you are not careful...it was an absurd comment that anyone who read your posts would know was not meant to be truthful.

(Also, just as a side note your debate about UFOs was with Winston. I have no opinion on UFOs, neither believing nor disbelieving in them).

So um, okay...we cool now?

Comment by Mountain Fog

July 12th 2008 15:29
Ruby ...maybe... but...

one needs to make things more clearly satirical, for if one reads this, and has not read my posts, one would assume it is true.. (and yes, I fully admit, many would agree wholeheartedly even after reading everything I have written..)

and yes, I realize I addressed you instead of Winston, on your shared blog site, but, in my defense, (and oddly I admit) I was too tired to read most of it, and didn't bother checking avatars and whatnot, just seized on something, and you were replying to someone else's response midst the post... so I presumed it was yours, even though it was Winston who replied to me first!! Told you I was tired.. still am.. going to bed...

at any rate, all is well that ends well..

cheers

Hi fog, well i guess Morgan and myself just assumed that you would go along with the joke, thereby quashing any fears that anyone would take it seriously....anyway, not to drag this out but I really didn't mean to offend you.

Most of my favourite posts disappeared when Wendi took down 'Abstract Magick' she left before blog cemetary so most of its gone forever.

Right now Im loving just about everything by Queeny who does Quirky Folk, Damos 'I must be God' Davids old chain on 'The Stone Goddess' and Ravens Paranormal stuff.

Hi Ruby,

thanks for going the extra yard there to make things clear, and special thanks for your apology.

See, some people ion Orbleworld could learn by our mistaken/misunderstood/jokie/ joust or whatever, apologies help heal, apologies help understand other's feelings, and there are some who knowingly go out of their way to slyly drop inappropriate comments and/or 'research', or open 'questions', that are designed to offend... now I will leave that open to everyones' imagination, as to whom I am suggesting... a few candidates..

anyhoo, pity we do not have fully animated avatars, with sobbing and laughter buttons to push, I could push both, probably every day when I think upon it...

cheers

Yes, you shall. A hundred years from now, when you are old and decrepit - yet somehow still impossibly gorgeous - you shall perish uttering the words '...But I have yet to hear a witty word from that girl with the laughing mouth.'

So I had best just spit it out and say - thank you, Morgan. I am greatly honoured to be included in such a list.

hi D,
thanks for the comment!

i might have to do another list of favourite film reviews because there are so many of you great movie buffs on here!

hi Tracy,
is it all stuff you have seen before?
what are some of your favourite posts?

hi Louie,
thanks for the comment!
you know i should also really do a list of important news and research posts, i stuck mostly to the humour and emotions on this one but there are many many other writers i read and respect!

Hi Morgan,

I have to agree ..and agree again... I've also been M.I.-(orble)-A. to complete system failure (technical); followed by complete reporatory failure (human); interstate house guests ...and more recently to Medieval Re-enactor duties for the SE Queensland Festival of that nature...

As Mrs M says, you've done the hard yards for me, share my tastes completely in good orbling reads ... and I have only to thank you and get on with reading all of these great posts on your list.

Good on Yer!
