Procrastination . . .
December 10th 2008 12:03
. . . thy name is YouTube!
isnt is funny how as soon as you have the deadline for a really boring report or assignment looming you suddenly have all these really "urgent" things that require attention?
with xmas just around the corner i have been using the festive season as an excuse to delay writing . . . between online shopping, booking flights, liaising between friends to schedule meet-ups, doing a few laps of the local kmart, shopping for clothes to wear to xmas parties etc, i have eaten up a substantial chunk of time (and money)
however the adrenaline rush of lateness had still not set in . . .
suddenly i needed to dye my hair, do my nails, wax my legs, take my car in for a service, and go on a detox diet (the Kickstart diet from Today Tonight, just incase anyone else out there wants to waste an incredible amount of time)
URGENT!
can not wait!
even though all these things had been in the back of my mind for months, as soon as there is something distasteful to do i start rummaging through my mental files for alternate activities
but once they are all done, then what?
do you do the task youve been avoiding?
NO!
because theres always YouTube!
some people can spend hours using StumbleUpon to search random sites, or using instant chat programs like MSN, but my most dangerous time-wasting vice is definately YouTube . . . do you know you can watch whole movies on there? haha *tick tock*
it all started when i read THIS POST by PoMo and clicked on the first link . . . i was transported to YouTube to watch a Celine Dion and Barbra Steisand ballad . . . i like Barbra, and i began thinking "gee i liked her movie The Mirror Has Two Faces" which depicted Barbra entering into a non-sexual marriage with Jeff Bridges, its quite a charming little film . . . well someone has uploaded the whole movie in 10min sections, so i settled in for a movie night on my computer!
oh i should watch Lolita again (the Jeremy Irons version), and i never did get around to watching Heavenly Creatures, i simply must do that NOW . . . and i couldnt possibly go another day with watching Velvet Goldmine, do you know how many men are wearing womens makeup in that flick?
theyre all there!
i also watched Dancer In The Dark . . .
damn you YouTube and your constant entertainment!

for the path you take will lead to your destruction!

YouTube: so evil!
it will start with a music clip, then develop into film trailer . . . and then *boom* you are a full-on addict!

I'm a terrible procrastinator. I'm not that big into YouTube, but can definitely waste days on the internet to avoid doing a task!

i imagined you as fairly organised, i dont know why, i kind of thought you would have a little colour-coded office and a diary where you account for your time in 15 min intervals like a solicitor . . . id love to see the invoice Orble gets for your monthly billing hours!

How cute of you to reference my post!
My most favourite procrastination device is definitely Facebook... and then there's MSN. Barely a day goes by when I don't have both of these on simultaneously, and am hence perpetually distracted from everything else I attempt to do!
Oh god, I have SO many Orble post ideas that it's not funny... but between my new partner, an intense online correspondence which has led to a collaborative volume on politics, and trying to write my autobiography, I'm just overwhelmed by the world of text. Then there's trying to record cover versions to put on a CD, trying to keep fit ever so vaguely, trying to leave the house more often and various chores to do... so when I head over to YouTube I usually know exactly what I'm looking for and only browse twice or thrice more... which is admittedly a lot of minutes when you add them all up, because I'm usually on it at least once a day! Wow, I'm so net-addicted, hahaha.
Here's wishing you a marvellous transition into the Holiday season, Morgan!

Yeah, I'm trying to put together a range of (me singing other people's) songs which display my range and I can send to friends or industry members... I don't have anything on YouTube yet, but if you want to take a listen to my favourite sample so far, this link should allow you to download the file... it's not too big, prob about 2 mins:
Really Long Link
Take care, E

But, if it wasn't for procrastination, and wasting time on YouTube, how would i ever have found out that one of the classic late 80's cantopop ballads was actually a remake of a japanese ballad?
How would i have discovered that Paramore indeed can sing live and acoustically?
How would i have gotten to see Daniel Radcliffe kiss Rove behind the scenes?
I should've watch Twilight on YouTube...'cause then i would've realised that it wasn't that good and need not see it at the cinemas. Alas, a lesson for next time!

But that's OK, I consider this constructive procrastination.
