Deep Pencil - the musings of Morgan Bell

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it did it really make a sound? If i post a blog and nobody reads it was there really any point? You have entered the random thinking space of Morgan Bell . . . These are my musings . . . things about my life written off the top of my head . . . written in an informal disjointed style almost completely devoid of punctuation, this is where i flesh out writing ideas, discuss my life, and generally be self indulgent . . . it is also the bargain bin for articles which do not fit in with the film or arts themes of my other blogs . . . so have a wander around my mind, have a laugh, have a think, be nice, and humour me!

The Fool

things to remember when confronted with a fool . . .

"Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

Mark Twain

"Who's the more foolish: The fool, or the fool who follows him?"

Obi-Wan - Star Wars

"Answer a fool with his own stupidity, or he will think he is wise."

or (alternative interpretation)

"Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes."

Proverbs 26:4-5

"I pity the fool."

Mr T

v. good. love the pic too, its almost evil like fools tend to be. My method of dealing with fools is to simply ignore them

hi Louie,
good to see you!
i had one quote in mind but there have just been so many great expressions about fools across the ages, i thought i should make a short list!
one day "fools tend to be evil, ignore them" will be in a famous quote book with your name under it!

Oh, what a good idea Morgan. Yours are, I think, apropos a certain local event. Can I add some more general ones?

Fools have this happiness--to be happy with themselves and let other people blush for them.
Anonymous

How haughtily he lifts his nose, to tell what every schoolboy knows.
Jonathan Swift

The Cardinal is at his wit's end. It is true he had not far to go.
Lord Byron

(My new year's resolution is) to tolerate fools more gladly, provided that they do not take up more of my time.
James Agate

Had your forefathers, Wigglesworth, been as stupid as you are, the human race would never have succeeded in procreating itself.
Alan Bennett

I think the Mark Twain quote sums it up very nicely.

Of course, The Fool probably thinks he is arguing with a fool? Hmmmm.

I love Mark Twain.

And I love you for this post.

hi Chris,
yes i am often inspired by Orble clashes, and i think the silver lining is to revisit some of those old phrases that best describe the situation!
thankyou so much for your contribution!
i had not heard any of those sayings before but i laughed at ALL of them

It is true he had not far to go.

haha that Lord Byron was a funny bugger!
i do find it slightly comforting that fools have been bothing people since the beginnings of the written word!

hi Ruby,
aww shucks! im glad you enjoyed!
"The Fool" is an achetype we have always had to deal with in our human experience, so sometimes its good to console yourself with the words of the wise who have already been there and done that!
i know you are a big fan of Twain, he was a very clever man!
unfortunately in this life you often have to make the mistake to learn from it, im sure Twain argued fruitlessly with many fools in his time before he came up with that phrase . . . i know i have!

Kiss me, you fool.

I think it was a screen siren.

Seriously, kiss me.

On the lisp.
